PEOPLECARE KERRYN MCCANN 10 RACE RECORDS
All records are up for grabs this year being the first year the event has been held at the Kembla Joggers Cross-Country Park. The previous race records from the event being held in Wollongong can be viewed here View previous winners.
About the Peoplecare Kerryn McCann 10
The 10km will be run in honour of one of Australia’s finest ever female distance athletes, the late, great Kerryn McCann. Born and bred in the Illawarra, Kerryn’s achievements are numerous having won many Australian championship titles, winning Australia’s iconic footrace, the City 2 Surf, and, of course, back to back Commonwealth Games marathon gold medals in 2002 (Manchester) and 2006 (Melbourne).
Kerryn was a very proud member of Kembla Joggers for many years and won the Fitness 5 female race no fewer than 5 times, with her first victory in the inaugural edition in 1990. Her time of 15.49 in 2005 will forever stand as the female course record for the Wollongong course, something a number of other Australian representatives were unable to better over the years.
The race will see participants first complete a 2km lap of the ‘front half’ of the Kembla Joggers Cross-Country park, before embarking on 2 laps of the 4km cross-country loop. This unique course design offers a great spectator vantage point for supporters seeing competitors 4 times right in front of the Kembla Joggers Clubhouse at Integral Energy Recreation Park.
Kembla Joggers is very excited to bring this special 10km event to the running community in honour of a local champion. In memory of Kerryn, Kembla Joggers is proud to support the Illawarra Cancer Carers in 2021, with $10 from every entry to the Kerryn McCann 10 being donated in support to them. It is hoped the event will grow and become a feature race on the national running calendar.
